I've come to my research after more than fifteen years working as a user experience architect, e-learning designer, editor, film supervisor, producer, assistant professor, personal tutor, and performer. I've worked for large companies and start-ups, and spent many years freelancing in the San Francisco Bay Area. I've also lived in Chicago and New Orleans, plus a six-month stint near Stockholm, and am now based in the East Midlands of England.

My work has primarily been focused on human-computer interaction, media technology, and education. My degrees are all in the arts, though: a Bachelor's in Radio/TV/Film from Northwestern University, and a Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing from the University of New Orleans. I've written screenplays, stage plays, and novels, sung live in front of thousands, and performed stand-up and theatrical works around Great Britain. And whenever I can, I get out on my bike - the road bike for English country lanes, the tourer for multi-week camping trips, the Brompton for being extra mobile, and the town bike to get myself where I need to be.

Lately, you'll find me and my mandolin gamely trying to keep up with the people who know what they're doing at folk sessions in and around Beeston.
